Prophecy:

God foretells the future accurately and consistently.  The prophecies in the following examples are found in the Old Testament; however, the fulfillment of these prophecies are found in the New Testament.  The fulfillment of the prophecies occurred many years later.  There are many prophecies in the Bible.

Prophecy examples:

Micah prophesied during the time period from 725-700 B.C. Micah 5:2 (Old Testament):

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.”
The prophecy is the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.
Fulfillment of prophecy-
Luke 2:4,5,7 (New Testament)
4  Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David
in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child
And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Isaiah (Date: 740-680 B.C.) Isaiah was a prophet who was martyred. 

Isaiah 7:14 (Old Testament)

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:  Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel."
The prophecy is Mary, a virgin, gave birth to Jesus Christ.

Fulfillment of prophecy
Luke 1:26,27,30,31 (New Testament)

26  Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,
27  to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
30  The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
31  "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus."

Isaiah 53:3 (Old Testament)

He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; 
And like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
The prophecy is Jesus was rejected by the Jews.

Fulfillment of prophecy
John 1:11 (New Testament)

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

Isaiah 50:6 (Old Testament)

I gave My back to those who strike Me, and My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.
The prophecy is Jesus was spit on and struck.

Fulfillment of prophecy
Matthew 26:67 (New Testament)

Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him.

Psalm 22:17, 18 (Old Testament)

17  I can count all My bones. They look, they stare at Me;
18  They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.
The prophecy is the soldiers cast lots for His clothes.

Fulfillment of prophecy
Matthew 27:35, 36 (New Testament)

35  And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots.
36  And sitting down, they began to keep watch over Him there.


Jesus suffered so much so that we would be able to live with Him.  He loves us very much. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ.
